First I had left shoulder surgery at the end of May and I did absolutely nothing all summer except rehab. Then in late September, I found out that I had to have my right shoulder operated on. Now I've been on basically seven-and-a-half months of rehab. About three months ago, I got the okay to throw and now I've made three appearances so far this season and I feel great.
I think it's the same concept, except now I'm throwing in the seventh or eighth inning, and you have to get your three hitters out. You have to throw your repertoire at them, take care of business for (Kurt) Woeste and let him close it out in the ninth.
I wanted to get into physical education because I wanted to coach and I'm good with kids. I know how to relate with what they like, and what they are doing in everyday life, and I can teach them to become responsible young men and women. I also want to teach kids about life, more than just physical education. I want to show them how to become a young responsible adult.
It?s a real honor. The coaches have taught me a lot about the game and being responsible. It's just the respect from them that makes me proud to be a captain of this baseball team. The young guys look me up to me as a leader, and I'm up to the challenge.
You have to balance your time academically and athletically. I think when you are on the road you have to concentrate on your grades, because they can slip in a matter of a week if you are not paying attention to them, staying up to date. It's very difficult at times when you are on the road for the weekend at a time and you have stuff due that Monday morning, and you need to get it done on Thursday before you leave.
