YPSILANTI, Mich. – The distance medley relay team of Lianna Surtz, Alex Bauer, Samantha Thomas and Mercy Kinyanjui combined to place second at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Indoor Championship in Ypsilanti, Mich. on Friday. The DMR group recorded a final time of 11:23.70, easily besting the previous school record time of 11:29.57 set in 2003.

In the 5000m finals, Karina James placed fifth with a time of 16:52.13 while Morgan Hicks took eighth-place with a final mark of 16:53.91.

Laura Nicholson qualified for the mile and 800m finals with second-place finishes in both preliminary events. Surtz and Bauer also qualified for the mile final events, finishing in sixth and eighth, respectively. Samantha Thomas qualified for the 400m finals with a fifth-place finish in the preliminary round.

The Rockets currently sit in ninth place as a team with 13 points. Miami is in the lead with 32 points.
