Marketing and Fan Experience Internship

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Influencing and cultivating student attendance at home athletic events.
  • Assist with game days, special events, in-game promotions, and the everyday operations of the department.
  • Help in creating & implementing marketing plans for student attendance, football, basketball, soccer, volleyball, baseball and softball, along with other athletic events.
  • Create and research social media content to engage with Rocket fans.
  • Attendance is mandatory for all home Rocket football games. (Depending on semester)
  • Attendance will be requested for most Rocket basketball games. (Depending on semester)
  • Work office hours as well as athletic events during nights and weekends as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the marketing staff.
Qualified applicants should have thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills (oral and written), and enjoy working in a people oriented setting.
Practicum/Internship can be part-time or full-time depending on your schedule and may be used for course credit (MKTG 4940).

Athletic Graphic Design Internship  

Intern will assist the Graphic Designer(s) with the department’s social, print, and promotional elements to promote the University’s 17 varsity sports and goals of increased attendance, revenue, and brand awareness. 

This is an unpaid internship position that will work 12-15 hours per week. 

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Create marketing and social media materials that complement our brand image and help with accomplishing the department’s goals and needs (social media, posters, media guide covers, brochures, direct-mail pieces).   
  • Aid in the creating, implementing and maintaining of a comprehensive social media strategy across all multiple digital platforms, including utrockets.com and team/department social media accounts.   
  • Create content for in-venue video boards and other promotional purposes that will promote upcoming games/events, create awareness, ticket sales, attendance, and donations to the Rocket Fund.  
  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Creative Services and Brand Strategy or Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Sales and Fan Experience. 

Requirements:  

  • The candidate should have a bachelor's degree in graphic design, visual communication technology, or a related field.   
  • Designer must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (most importantly; Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects).   
  • Flexibility in terms of handling a variety of assignments under tight deadlines, while maintaining a strong focus on branding, consistency, and quality.   
  • Candidates should also possess: strong organizational and writing skills.

Sports Photography Internship

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Photograph home games, matches and other athletic related events.
  • Assist the Marketing department on game days to coordinate and implement communications initiatives.
  • Operate appropriate photographic equipment to capture events and subjects.
  • Utilize photo editing software and applications to edit, crop, and enhance photographs.
  • Required to work a flexible schedule to include some nights, weekends and holidays based on event schedule.

Social Media Assistant

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Assist in the posting of social media content to official Toledo Rockets social media accounts.
  • Assist marketing and creative in the promotion of upcoming events and contests.
  • Brainstorm and execute engaging social media content to promote the Toledo Rockets Athletic department and its 17 varsity sports.
  • Create engaging phone content to be shared across Toledo Rockets social media accounts.

Athletic Video Production Internship  

Intern will assist the Video Producer with the department's video elements to promote the University's 17 varsity sports and goals of increased attendance, revenue, and brand awareness.  

This is an unpaid internship position that will work 12-15 hours per week. 

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Assist the video producer with shooting, editing, and archiving game highlights and other videos for the video board, website, social media and other marketing outlets to generate brand awareness, ticket sales, and attendance.  
  • Assist in the scheduling, writing of scripts, and development of promotional needs for video production.   
  • Edit high-end social media videos with footage provided for engagement. 
  • Aid in creating in-game video elements (player headshots & in-game videos, dance cam, make some noise, promotional items).  
  • Archive, organize and maintain Toledo Athletic footage from the past and present.   
  • Other duties as assigned by the Video Producer and Video Operations Coordinator. 

Requirements:  

  • Preferred candidates should have a working knowledge of video equipment, sports video production, experience with a prep level, collegiate or professional sports team. 
  • Shooting or editing experience required. 
  • Have strong organizational skills, outstanding communication and experience with video editing systems in the Adobe Suite, specifically in Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop (If working on site). 
  • Motion graphics experience is preferred but not required.

Athletic Video Operations Internship  

Intern will assist the Video Operations Producer with the department's video elements and game day production. This includes creating, organizing, loading and running content for the video boards, scorer’s table, and LED ring. Along with directing, training and working with the in-house camera crew and directors. Solving technical problems as well as assisting with game element problems as they arrive. 

This is an unpaid internship position that will work 12-15 hours per week. 

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following:  

  • Play a key role in the game day production. This includes creating, organizing, loading and running content for the video boards, scorer’s table, and LED ring. Along with directing, training and working with the in-house camera crew and directors. Solve technical problems as well as assist with game element problems as they arrive.  
  • Maintain a strong relationship with other departments/teams within the Athletic Department and University. Work with Learfield/Rocket Sports Properties for sponsorship fulfillment and with the Communications department and assist with ESPN broadcasts when needed.    
  • Assist in the scheduling and development of content needs for in-game production.   
  • When needed help the Video Producer Coordinator in creating game highlights, video features, promotional videos and more. 
  • Aid in creating in-game video elements (player headshots & in-game videos, dance cam, make some noise, promotional items).

Live Sports Production Class (COMM-3260)

This is a laboratory/cooperative course where students will work in collaboration with other university departments and clients with the result of producing live video content for streaming on ESPN3 and display in various venues such as the Glass Bowl, Savage Arena, scoreboards and in-house projection systems. All production work will be completed outside the classroom, and students will need to be available for productions during hours outside of standard class meeting times.

In-Game Host and/or Public Address Announcer

Looking for In-Game Hosts and/or Public Address Announcers for Toledo athletic events throughout the year. These positions will be responsible for announcements, conducting promotions and using their voice and personality to entertain and energize the crowd.

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Ability to project and enunciate clearly over a microphone in front of a large crowd.
  • Must have an outgoing and creative personality.
  • Ability to adapt and improvise as needed.

Ticket Office Sales/Service Representative 

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Assisting customers with ticket orders over the phone & thru walk up sales.

Ground Control – Toledo Athletics Ambassador Program 

Work in high traffic areas in stadium/press tower with highly trained and educated staff to give best-in-class service 
Job Descriptions and Requirements: 
  • Assist with game-day preparation including but not limited to concourse set-up, handing out giveaway items. 
  • Must be comfortable approaching fans and engaging in conversation to greet guests and help with any questions or concerns while visiting our facilities. 
  • Execute the First Game Program for fans attending their first Rocket Football game. 
  • Staff Informational Booths inside the stadium. 
  • Oversee all concourse experiences and facilitate concourse activations. 
  • Assist fans in wayfinding and addressing safety concerns. 
  • Promote new in-stadium features to guests.

Toledo Ambassadors play an integral role in the Rocket fan experience by greeting each fan with enthusiasm, assisting with fan giveaways, answering fan questions, executing the First Game Program, and representing the University of Toledo at the highest level.  
Toledo Ambassadors will have the opportunity to work home men’s and women’s basketball games, if desired.

Email Marketing Internship

Intern will assist the Database Marketing Manager in planning, creating and managing email marketing campaigns.
This position’s duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Assist in the development and creation of email marketing campaigns.
  • Prepare weekly performance reports.

Development Internship

This position's duties include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Managing special events, game day operations, and the everyday operation of the department during football and basketball seasons.
  • Assisting with special fundraising events (e.g. Varsity 'T' Hall of Fame, Reverse Raffle fundraiser, golf outings, alumni events, etc.) in preparation and execution capacities.
  • Coordinating game day suite, premium seating, and Grogan Room services.
  • Tracking booster and group memberships while assisting with gift processing to increase involvement.
  • Distributing schedule cards, posters, and brochures throughout our facilities to promote our department.
  • Identify and update personal information in our database for alumni and letterwinners.
  • Aid with implementation of strategies to increase attendance at home events.
  • Assist with the identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospects for annual gifts to the Rocket Fund, Varsity T Club, and Downtown Coaches Association.
  • Work closely with marketing areas as mentioned above.
We currently offer full time, part time and game day only internships.

Athletic Communications Internship

The Athletic Communications Office accepts four student interns in the fall and spring semesters, and two student interns in the summer. The positions typically average between 15-40 hours per week, split about evenly between time in the office and at Rocket home games. Internships requiring fewer hours per week are also available. Current students at the University of Toledo or other universities are welcome to apply. An interest in sports is required. Writing experience and social media skills are helpful.

Event Operations Assistant

This position's duties and requirements include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Student will be required to work Athletic and Special Events that take place within our Athletic facilities.
  • Student will assist with set up and tear down of Athletic and Special events.
  • Student will assist with cleaning in preparation for any event that may take place in our athletic facilities.
  • Student will assist with set up of our baseball, softball, and soccer fields for games.
  • Student will be required to work some weekends due to a lot of our events taking place on weekends.
  • Student will be asked to work during the week as their school schedule permits.

Event Operations/Facilities Internship

Responsible for scheduling and coordinating occupants in six facilities, help create parking guides for football and basketball gamedays, assist in the facilitation of women’s soccer operations. Role will assist event manager in the setup/oversight of all gameday parking. Intern will oversee management and scheduling of student workers, approve/deny shift schedules and outline upcoming events on calendar for student viewing. Position will be responsible for office management duties, daily facility monitoring, signage/credential distribution and other gameday preparations.

This position's duties and requirements include, but are not limited to the following: 
  • Authorize scheduling of occupants for use of six different facilities (Glass Bowl, Savage Arena, etc.).
  • Assist with scheduling of events in Savage Arena, Fetterman Indoor Facility, Glass Bowl Stadium & Track/Soccer Facility.
  • Create parking guides for specific lots for security to use on football gamedays.
  • Help orchestrate women’s soccer operations.
  • Assist event manager for gameday parking setup/oversight.
  • Accountable for managing and scheduling student workers. Approve/deny shifts and outline upcoming events on calendar for student viewing.
  • Improve the quality of facilities by daily monitoring.
  • Design deposits, invoices, direct pays, and monthly PCard statements to achieve budget forecasting.
  • Coordinate with the event manager on various projects to insure quality results.
  • Assist with the distribution of signage/credential for upcoming sports seasons.
  • Collaborate with external constituents such as Toledo Ticket, CGS Imaging, and Federal Fire Co. to complete gameday preparations.
