TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday night for a Mid-American Conference matchup vs. Miami. The Rockets (13-4, 4-2 MAC) and RedHawks (7-12, 2-4 MAC) will tip off at 7:00 p.m. at Savage Arena and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
Toledo is coming off a 76-63 bounce-back win over Akron on Saturday. The win was UT's sixth straight at home, pushing its 2022-23Â record at Savage Arena to 8-1. The Rockets have now won 13 of their last 14 home MAC games. The win also pushed the Rockets to 4-2 in MAC play, one game behind Bowling Green and Ball State in the conference standings, and tied with Akron and Western Michigan.
The Rockets were tied with the Zips at the end of the first quarter before outscoring their opponents 23-11 in the second period. That proved to provide enough breathing room as UT's lead never fell below six points for the remainder of the game.
Jessica Cook turned one of her best performances of the season, scoring a team-high 14 points while shooting a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor. Cook was one of five Rockets to reach double figures in scoring and was joined by Sammi Mikonowicz (11 points), Jayda Jansen (10 points), Quinesha Lockett (10 points), and Nan Garcia (10 points).
Lockett is on the cusp of passing two of the best players in school history in career scoring. She enters Wednesday with 1,675 career points, which ranks eight all-time in and is just three points away from passing Kelly Savage (1,677) to move into seventh place. Lockett is also 10 points away from passing Kim Sekulski (1,684) and moving into sole possession of sixth place all-time in Toledo history. The Omaha, Neb. native has already cracked Toledo's career Top 10 in career points, scoring average (6th, 15.7 PPG), field goals made (7th, 607), field goal attempts (5th, 1,415), and three-point field goal attempts (7th, 498).
Following Wednesday's game, Toledo will play four of its next six games on the road. Its next game is this Saturday, Jan. 28 at Eastern Michigan at 1:00 p.m. The Rockets will return home on Saturday, Feb. 4 to play Ohio at 2:00 p.m. To purchase tickets to Toledo women's basketball games, visit the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at the Sullivan Athletic Complex in Savage Arena, contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653) or go online to UTRockets.com/tix.
