TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team pulled away from Saginaw Valley State late in a 74-62 exhibition victory at Savage Arena on Wednesday evening.
Â
The Rockets jumped out to an early double-digit advantage early, but the Cardinals pushed back and pulled to within a possession in the second half. The Rockets used a 15-4 run in the game's final 6:21 to secure the victory.
Â
Toledo was led by sophomore
Evalyse Cole, who scored 15 points on 6-of-10 from the field. Juniors
Kendall Carruthers (11 points) and
Ella Weaver (10 points) also finished in double figures. Junior
Alexa Hocevar neared a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore
Miriam Diala added nine points and nine boards.

Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"Saginaw Valley came prepared, and they did a really good job of taking away our first and second options, and made us get a little bit deeper into some looks. I thought we had a really balanced attack on offense, and almost put five players in double figures. That's really good, especially as we're learning each other. We need to limit our fouls and take better care of the basketball, but that stuff will come as we learn to play together."
Â
Rocket fans were able to see the team in action for the first time this season, ahead of Toledo's home opener on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Gonzaga.
