Toledo to Tussle with Gonzaga in Home Opener on CBS Sports Network on Sunday

Rockets welcome Bulldogs to Savage Arena for first time ever

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's basketball team will play its 2025-26 home opener on Sunday, Nov. 9, in a key early-season test against Gonzaga. Tipoff from Savage Arena is set for 2:30 on CBS Sports Network.

The Rockets (0-1) will play their first of 15 home games in the 2025-26 regular season. Toledo finished with a 13-2 home record last season and is 56-6 in Savage Arena over the past four year, including a 20-game winning streak between the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. Gonzaga (0-0) visits North Dakota State on Friday before heading to Toledo.

The Rockets and Bulldogs met two seasons ago out west, with the Bulldogs taking a 91-70 victory in the programs' only all-time meeting.

Opening Tips

  • Toledo plays its first home game, after finishing 13-2 at Savage Arena a season ago. Toledo holds an astounding 56-6 home record over the past four seasons, which includes a 20-game winning streak.
  • Toledo averaged 4,185 fans last season, leading the MAC for the 34th-straight season and ranking 33rd in the country. 2024-25 was the 14th consecutive season Toledo has ranked in the top 40 for women's basketball attendance in NCAA Division I.
  • The Rockets fell at Troy in the season opener, 88-51. Sophomore Evalyse Cole scored a career-high 12 points to lead the Rockets at Troy.
  • Junior Kendall Carruthers, a First Team Preseason All-MAC pick, scored 11 points against the Trojans and knocked down two three-pointers.
  • Both Toledo and Gonzaga were picked second in their respective league's preseason polls.
  • The Rockets will play their second-straight opponent ranked in the top 25 of the College Insider Women's Mid-Major Top 25, with Gonzaga ranked seventh. Toledo received 44 votes in the preseason poll.
  • Both Toledo and Gonzaga are coming off WBIT appearances a year ago, and each of the two programs have storied postseason traditions - Toledo has made national postseason tournaments in each of the last four seasons while Gonzaga reached every NCAA Tournament played from 2017-2024.
  • The game is a White Out, and Rocket fans are encouraged to fill the seats and wear white. The first 2,000 Toledo fans will also receive free rally towels for the game.

Rockets on National TV

  • Sunday marks Toledo's sixth nationally televised game in the past three seasons.
  • Last season, Toledo played at Iowa on the Big Ten Network, at Ball State on CBS Sports Network during the regular season, and again against the Cardinals on CBS Sports Network in the MAC Tournament championship game.
  • The Rockets last hosted a national TV game at Savage Arena on Dec. 6, 2023 against Michigan on CBS Sports Network, taking down the Wolverines 69-46.
  • The MAC will also have two future conference regular-season games, a MAC-SBC Challenge game and the conference tournament title game on CBS Sports Network this season, along with an ESPNU game on March 7.
