TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team begins its Mid-American Conference schedule with a pair of home contests against Miami and Ball State. The Rockets host Miami on Friday, Sept. 22 at 4:05 p.m. before battling Ball State on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1:05 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN3Â from Scott Park.
The Rockets (3-4-1, 0-0-0 MAC) have relied on a stout defense through the non-conference portion of their schedule. Redshirt freshman
Madison Perrin and the UT defense has recorded four shutouts on the season, leading to the Rockets three wins and their lone draw.Â
In its last time out, Toledo blanked Valparaiso and netted two goals by juniorsÂ
Alena Sidwell and
Hannah Scafaria. Scafaria currently is tied for the team lead with two goals and an assist on the season. Senior
Isa Echeverri also has multiple goals, an assist and tops the squad with 16 shots.
Miami (0-7-0, 0-0-0 MAC) has struggled mightily in 2017, dropping its first seven contest of the campaign. The RedHawks have been shut out on six occasions and have tallied just one goal thus far this season.
Olivia Winnett scored the only RedHawks goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Wright State. Patricia Koutoulas, who has made 38 saves in goal, will start between the posts for Miami.
Ball State (2-5-1, 0-0-0) notched wins over Fort Wayne (2-0) and Western Illinois (3-0) during the non-conference schedule to go along with a scoreless draw against Appalachian State.
Sam Kambol and Amanda Shaw lead the Cardinal offense with three goals and two goals, respectively. Goalkeeper Alyssa Heintschel recorded both wins in shut out fashion defensively.
Toledo holds an 11-10-1 ledger over Miami in the all-time series but trails Ball State 7-9-1 in the team's 17 matches. The Rockets dropped 2-1 decisions against both the RedHawks and Cardinals on the road last season.
Fans are welcome to bring their canine friends to the Rockets Bark in the Park day on Sunday.
The women's soccer team takes to the road next weekend with west division matchups at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
