Emma Rhoades’ First-Half Goal Leads Toledo to 1-0 Win over UMass

Rockets fend off 11 UMass corner kicks for first MAC victory

TOLEDO, Ohio – Emma Rhoades' 14th-minute goal stood as the winner as the Toledo women's soccer team claimed its first win in Mid-American Conference play in a 1-0 triumph over UMass at Paul Hotmer field on Sunday.
 
The Rockets (4-5-6, 1-4-4 MAC) got on the board first for the first time since Sept. 18, and the defense held the lead for the final 76 minutes, fending off 11 corner kicks for the Minutewomen (5-6-4, 3-4-2). The Rockets earned their fourth win at home this season and fourth shutout.
 
Toledo earned the shots and shots on goal advantages, 10-7 and 5-2, respectively. UMass led in corners, 11-2 including seven trips to the corner flag in the first half.

  • 6' | UMass' Peyton Costello had an early chance, but her shot from the edge of the box was read well by Agnes Stenlund.
  • 14' | Off a throw-in, Hailee Maynard headed the ball forward to Kaema Amachree, who crossed across the box to Emma Rhoades in front of the net for a 1-0 Toledo lead.
  • 36' | UMass appeared to have equalized off a corner kick, but the goal was called back for offsides.
  • 66' | Toledo created a chance in the box off a corner kick, where Morgan Spitler's shot was blocked and the rebound deflected wide off Amachree.

The Rockets return to the road to face Kent State on Thursday, Oct. 23. Kickoff against the Golden Flashes will be at 7:00 p.m.
