Box Score TOLEDO, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference series between Toledo and Western Michigan is even at one apiece after the Rockets were defeated, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at Mercy Field.
The Rockets (7-20, 1-4 MAC) were led offensively by junior
Dalton Bollinger who recorded the only multi-hit game for the home team. The offense managed six hits and were held to one run for the second-straight game.
Western Michigan (13-10, 3-2 MAC) jumped out of the gates and scored three runs off of fifth-year senior starter
Ross Achter. The Broncos were helped by a two-out error that plated a pair of runs and prolonged the inning.
UT responded an inning later to make the score 3-1. Friday night's hero, junior
Matt Hansen singled to start the frame and took third on a single by Bollinger. Junior
AJ Montoya made it three-straight hits with an RBI single to left.
The three singles was enough to chase the WMU starter, but the Broncos' relief pitching was unfazed. Gabe Berman came on to pitch six scoreless innings, allowing three hits, to eventually earn the win.Â
Toledo allowed a run in the eighth on a pair of singles to increase the deficit to 4-1. In the bottom half, sophomore
Riley Campbell walked and Bollinger singled but both were left stranded.
Sophomore
Luke Schaefer threw a clean ninth inning, but the Rockets could not manage to mount a comeback in the last inning.
Achter (2-3) is tagged with the loss after allowing one earned run on eight hits and three walks.
The rubber match of the series will be played tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. at Mercy Field.Â
