OXFORD, OH - The Toledo volleyball team was on the brink of its first Mid-American Conference win on Thursday in a match against East Division foe Miami, but was unable to close the door on the RedHawks in the final set. Toledo ultimately fell in five sets, 3-2 (22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 15-8).

The Rockets won the first set by the score of 25-22, but Miami bounced back, winning the next two frames. In the fourth, the Midnight Blue & Gold held off a strong RedHawk attack, but lost the fifth set 15-8.

Three players for the Rockets recorded double-digit kills, led by sophomore OH Alyssa Ehrhardt with 14. Ehrhardt also added a career-high and team-leading 23 digs in the match.

Freshman RS Rachel Vidourek and sophomore OH Mary O'Connor each tallied 13 kills as well, and freshman OH Annie Beasley added eight more on the offensive end.

On defense, Ehrhardt was one of five Rockets with at least 10 digs. Freshman libero Lauren Bakaitis, junior S Alex Hines, sophomore DS Maggie Johnston and junior DS Maggie Strall accumulated 21, 15, 11 and 10 digs, respectively in the contest.

Along with her 15 digs, Hines had 48 assists as well as three total blocks. Vidourek also had a strong defensive match with two solo blocks and three block assists. As a team, the Midnight Blue & Gold recorded nine total team blocks, but the RedHawks managed a .251 attack percentage.

Senior S/RS Meg Riley tallied a triple-double for Miami with 17 kills (.615 ATK), 29 assists and 17 digs, while freshman DS Maeve McDonald had a match-high 26 digs to help limit the Rockets to a .183 hitting percentage.

In the first set, the Rockets fought back from an early 8-4 deficit to score the next six points and take a 10-8 lead on six straight Ehrhardt serves. Toledo never trailed again in the set, closing out Miami on an O'Connor termination.

After an 11-11 tie in the second set, Miami went on a run to tie the match at one set apiece, before taking the lead on an impressive third set, where the RedHawks won 25-16.

Toledo never trailed in the fourth set that saw just two ties. The teams tied at 4-4 in the set, but the Midnight Blue & Gold was slowly able to open up a lead to tie the match at two sets apiece.

In the fifth and deciding set, the Rockets fell in an early 3-0 hole and were not able to recover, as the RedHawks closed out the match, 15-8.

The Rockets will take part in the Battle of I-75 tomorrow in Bowling Green, when they take on the Falcons. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
