TOLEDO, OH - Toledo
came out firing on all cylinders on Friday evening and never trailed in a 3-0
(25-19, 25-15, 25-18) triumph over Miami
on 'Dig Pink Night' before 457 fans at Savage Arena. The victory improves the
Rockets' win-loss mark to 13-8 overall and 4-5 in the Mid-American Conference,
while the RedHawks fall to 11-10 overall and 6-3 in conference play.
"We had a tremendous team effort tonight against a very good
Miami squad," first-year
Toledo Head Coach Greg Smith said. "We played with a lot of determination and
intensity and never gave Miami
a chance to get back in the match. It
was great to get so many contributions from everyone out on the court."
UT utilized a balanced attack throughout en route to posting
an impressive .298 team hitting percentage. The
Rockets also put up a strong defensive front by posting nine blocks in the
contest.
Freshman OH Sondra Parys paced Toledo's offense with 11 kills and posted a
.360 ATK%. Also enjoying strong offensive performances were sophomore OH Cassie
Kleespies (nine kills, .350 ATK%) and senior middle blockers Sarah Wilson

match-high 16 digs.
Toledo jumped on the RedHawks early in
the first set and never trailed. A 6-1
Rocket run gave UT a 14-8 advantage and the closest the visitors could come the
rest of the set was four points. Four
Rockets tallied three kills apiece in the set as UT's balanced attack posted a
.375 attack percentage. Farrell paced Miami
with a set-high five kills.
A Parys kill ignited a 4-1 Rocket spurt early in the second
set to give UT a 14-8 advantage and force Miami
to call timeout. The RedHawks climbed to within 15-13 but kills from Kleespies,
Kadera and Wilson ended any thought of a comeback. Wilson
paced Toledo with four kills in and a .571 ATK%
in the set, with Farrell leading Miami
again with four terminations.
UT surged to a quick 4-0 lead in the third set thanks to a
Kleespies kill and a pair of Sundburg blocks. The RedHawks clawed back to
within 4-3 but the Rockets steadily built up a big lead again. With the score
9-7, Parys capped off a 7-1 run with a kill for a 16-8 advantage. Parys topped
UT offensively in the set with five kills and a .625 hitting mark, while senior
