TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Senior Keith Triplett tallied 16 points and sophomore Justin Ingram scored 11
of his 13 points in the second half to help Toledo beat Ball State 77-67 on Wednesday.
Sophomore Keonta Howell added 14 points off the bench for the Rockets (6-7, 2-2 Mid-American), who held the Cardinals to just 34.5 percent shooting from the field. It was the lowest shooting percentage by a Rocket opponent this season
Terrance Chapman scored 18 points and Julien 'Skip' Mills had 15 for Ball State (7-5, 2-2), which committed 20 turnovers. Peyton Stovall had 13 points and seven rebounds, but also had eight of the turnovers.
Chapman, Mills and Stovall all reached double figures in the first half as Ball State led 35-32 at halftime. The Cardinals made 16 of 20 free throws in the opening half.
Toledo rallied to take a 58-56 lead, then went on a 10-2 run. Triplett had four points and sophomore Sammy Villegas hit two three-pointers during the spurt.
Villegas finished with 12 points for the Rockets, who went 23-for-31 from the free-throw line. Also playing a strong game for UT was freshman guard Kashif Payne, who tallied six points and eight assists while committing just one turnover in a season-high 27 minutes.
Dennis Trammell finished with 12 points for the Cardinals, who only went 5-of-12 from the line in the second half.
The Rockets return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15 with a trip to Huntington, WV to face Marshall (3-10, 0-4 MAC).
