Softball is so competitive and you play games or practice almost every day. In the summer, we would play four games a day on the weekend and we would practice almost eight hours a day. With as much time as you put in I think it makes players really work on their fundamentals and become better players.
I think the hardest part is being away from my family because I am really close with them. It's an adjustment I have to make, but it's hard because I'm used to having my dad at all my games. He's my biggest fan and biggest critic and he helps me a lot. As far as softball, my biggest adjustment has been the speed of pitches because the pitcher's mound is three feet farther back and you see more movement.
I'm a little bit surprised, but I think I can play better. Even though I think I can play at a little higher level, I'm still pretty happy about how things are going.
I originally wasn't going to go to college and I was going to go to cosmetology school back home. But then I received a scholarship offer and since my dad never went to college he really wanted me to go. So now I can earn a business degree and hopefully open up my own salon after college.
I have always liked Chipper Jones as a player because he was a switch-hitter. I used to hit righthanded but then my dad thought it would be good to learn to hit lefthanded because being a slap hitter in softball gives you another advantage.
