Payton Pudlowski's three-run homer helps Toledo wins second game of doubleheader
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Toledo softball team split a pair of games with Bowling Green in the Battle of I-75 presented by Fremont Federal Credit Union on Wednesday afternoon. Toledo fell in game one, 5-0, before winning the rubber match, 6-4, to win the three-game series.
UT earned its fourth series win in Mid-American Conference play and moved to 8-7 in league play, which places the Rockets in sixth in the league standings.
The Rockets' offense racked up 10 hits in the game two, none bigger than the three-run homer by sophomore second baseman Payton Pudlowski in the fifth inning that put Toledo ahead for good. Samantha Bolding also had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Katie McDonald (8-8) got the win in relief, giving up two runs on two hits in 3.1 innings.
The Rockets fell in game one, 5-0. The offense was held to just six hits, led by Aubrey Hensley who went 2-for-2 and drew a walk. McDonald took the loss in the first contest, tossing a complete game and allowing just three earned runs on five hits.
Quoting Head Coach Jessica Bracamonte
"Taking another series is huge for us, and always a little sweeter when it's to win the Battle of I-75. Proud of the way we bounced back in game two today to close it out. We talked about the adjustments we needed to make at the plate after dropping game one today and we came out and did just that. We did a great job of playing together in every aspect and it showed."
Up Next
Toledo will return home to host Miami for a three-game series on Saturday-Sunday, April 11-12. Action from Scott Park will begin on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a doubleheader.
