Cade Baker hits two home runs and totals five RBIs
Â
Toledo (17-23) took a 4-3 lead with a four-run second inning and later came back to tie things in the third inning, 5-5 and fourth inning, 7-7. The Penguins regained the lead in the fifth inning and extended the margin to 10-7, but the Rockets cut the deficit to one in the sixth and ninth innings. Toledo had the winning run on base in the ninth, but a flyout ended the game.
Â
Junior Cade Baker hit a three-run home run and a two-run home run in back-to-back at-bats, his first multi-home run game of the season. He totaled five RBIs on the afternoon. Five players tallied multi-hit games, with Cole Cahill contributing a pair of RBI knocks. Junior Charlie Scholvin marked his 19th multi-hit game of the season.
Â
Senior Arturo Ormaza and redshirt junior Ryan Hughes worked the final three innings for Toledo on the mound, allowing just one run and one hit combined. Braden Curry took the losing decision.
Â
Toledo and Youngstown State will complete the home-and-home series tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. at Eastwood Field in Niles, Ohio.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Really disappointed with that game. After playing so well on Sunday and getting some life in us, we came out today and did nothing. We hit the ball okay but not good enough to win. We didn't pitch very well early and were always playing from behind. We get another crack at these guys tomorrow at their place. We've got another opportunity to play good baseball and feel good about ourselves heading into a MAC weekend versus our rivals."
