YPSILANTI, Mich. – Senior
Laura Nicholson recorded three individual championships at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday as Toledo finished in sixth-place overall with 64 points.
Nicholson brought home a gold medal in the mile run (4:43.58), the 800m (2:06.75) and the 3000m (9:29.38) and broke the school record in the 800m event. The Cork, Ireland native became the first Rocket to win three individual titles in the conference championship meet. Nicholson earned MVP honors at the championship meet after scoring 30 points as an individual. The senior scored the same amount of points as Central Michigan and Northern Illinois and tallied more points than Buffalo and Western Michigan.Â
"It was such a fun weekend," said Nicholson. "I felt so supported and motivated by my teammates and my coaches. I'm so happy to have ran well and win all three titles, while also being surrounded by my friend's succeeding and running so well. I am happy for myself and feeling love for the whole women's track and field team."
The last UT runner to win multiple events in the MAC Indoor Championship was Petronela Simiuc who won the 800m and mile in 2020.
The Rockets placed sixth overall in the event, the best team finish since 2022 when the squad recorded a fifth-place finish.
In the 3000m,
Mercy Kinyanjui followed Nicholson and recorded a second-place finish with a time of 9:32.44. In the mile run,
Lianna Surtz took fourth with a time of 4:48.86 while
Alex Bauer followed in fifth with a final mark of 4:50.89. Senior
