Rockets to Face Rigorous Schedule in 2023-24 Season

Toledo to visit nine different states after facing one of Top 100 schedules last year

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's golf team will play from coast to coast and visit nine different states as part of a challenging schedule for its 2023-24 campaign, Head Coach Jeff Roope announced on Friday. The Rockets will again be facing some of the nation's top programs during its upcoming season after facing one of the Top 100 schedules last year.

"We are fortunate to have the opportunity to play some great events," Roope said. "Putting together a great schedule is really one of those tools for success that we tout in our recruiting and value for retention. A lot of credit for that goes to being able to host the Inverness intercollegiate. Running that event allows us to craft a great plan for our guys every year."

Toledo will begin its fall campaign at the Tennessee Intercollegiate in Loudon, Tenn. on Sept. 8-10 before heading to Richmond, Va. for the VCU Shootout on Sept. 18-19.

The Rockets will then take three weeks off before competing in two tournaments in a nine-day span beginning with East Tennessee State's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate on Oct. 8-10 followed by Michigan State's Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla. UT will be competing in the Quail Valley event for a third straight year and set a 54-hole school record last year with a 29-under par 835.

Toledo will wrap up its fall with a trip to the West Coast for the Cal Poly Invitational at the Preserve Golf Club on Oct. 30-31.

The Rockets will tee off their spring season in Henderson, Nev. with the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Feb. 26-28. In March, UT will compete at Auburn's Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner on March 11-12 and the College of Charleston's The Hootie at Bulls Bay Club on March 24-26.

The Rockets will then wrap up their regular season at Virginia's Lewis Chitengwa Memorial on April 8-9 and the Illinois Spring Collegiate on April 20-21. Toledo will host the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships at The Club at Chatham Hills in Westfield, Ind. on April 26-28.

The Rockets return seven letterwinners for the 2023-24 campaign, including reigning MAC Golfer of the Year and three-time first-team All-MAC honoree Barend Botha. Botha set a school record with a 70.5 season stroke average en route to earning PING All-Midwest Region Team honors.

Graduate students Palmer Yenrick (73.3) and NJ Botha (73.7) as well as senior Jamie Tofte Nielsen (73.8) are also returning veterans for the Rockets.  Toledo will also welcome junior transfer CJ van Wyk (Augusta/George, South Africa).
