TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team put up a tough fight in a doubleheader with defending Mid-American Conference Champion Miami at Scott Park on Tuesday, but dropped both contests, 4-1 and 15-8 .
The Rockets took a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning of the opening game before giving up four runs in the seventh. In the second game, a seven-run fifth inning was not enough to overcome a 12-0 deficit.
The first game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when Toledo struck. Sophomore pinch-runnerÂ
Sydney McKeever swiped back-to-back stolen bases to get to third base, then scored when sophomore
Lauren Erickson lined a two-out single to left field. However, Miami answered with four runs in the top of the seventh and kept the Rockets off the scoreboard in the seventh.
In the second game, Miami scored 12 runs in the first five innings before Toledo rallied with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to trim the lead to 12-7. SeniorsÂ
Dayna Denner,
Aubrey Reed and
Erickson all smacked RBI doubles in the fifth. An inning later, sophomore
Jenna Kroll hit a solo homer to cut the lead to 12-8, but Miami answered with three in the seventh to close out the scoring.
Toledo and Miami will finish out the series tomorrow morning, with first pitch scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The game can be watched locally on BCSN or streamed on ESPN+.
