Toledo Drops Series Finale vs. Miami

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo battled with Miami through five innings but a six-run explosion by the Redhawks in the sixth inning gave them a 12-3 run-rule victory over the Rockets at Scott Park on Wednesday

The Rockets tied the game at 1-1 in the first inning  when Dayna Denner scored on a wild pitch by RedHawks' pitcher Courtney Vierstra. After the RedHawks regained the lead with three runs in the third inning, sophomore Lauren Erickson hit a solo home run in the fourth to narrow the lead to 4-2. After Miami tacked on two more in the fifth, the Rockets countered with a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 6-3. But the Redhawks sealed the deal with six runs in the sixth to give themselves a three-game series sweep.

Toledo will head to Akron this Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series at Lee R. Jackson Softball Field. The Rockets and Zips will play a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. on April 9 followed by a single game at noon on April 10.
