Alt Notches 1,000th Career Kill as Rockets Fall at Western Michigan

10/14/2022 5:15:00 PM

Box Score KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Junior Taylor Alt collected her 1,000th career kill on Friday, reaching that milestone in Toledo's three-set  loss at Western Michigan.

Alt becomes the 11th player in program history to reach 1,000 career kills. The two-time First-Team All-MAC selection entered the weekend leading the MAC in scoring (4.40 points/set) and kills (3.82/set) and had another productive match on Friday, leading all comers with 14 terminations.

Unfortunately it was not enough to overcome a balanced WMU (13-7, 5-3 MAC) offensive attack that saw four different players tally at least nine kills. The Broncos won the first two sets by identical 25-22 margins before handing the Rockets (12-6, 5-2 MAC) a 25-16 defeat in the third and final set.

Senior Ryann Jaqua tallied a match-high 25 digs and senior Olivia Vance added seven kills and three blocks, tying Rhyenne Filisi for the team lead. Junior Jada Bouyer appeared in the starting lineup for the second time this season and added six kills.

Toledo and WMU will meet again on Saturday at noon.

1st Set (25-22, Western Michigan)
Both teams traded points early in the first set, with the Rockets doing enough to take a 13-11 lead. WMU answered with a 5-0 run, however, to take a 16-13 lead it would not relinquish. Toledo scored three late points to stay alive and make the score 24-22, but WMU recorded the final point to win 25-22 and take a 1-0 lead in the match. Alt had seven kills in the first set, with her seventh termination being the 1,000th of her career.

2nd Set (25-22, Western Michigan)
With the score tied at 15-15 in the second set, Toledo fired off three straight points to take an 18-15 advantage. A WMU service error handed the Rockets the lead, then Alt registered a kill and an ace to extend the lead to three. But the Broncos didn't stay down for long, scoring the next five points to take a 20-18 lead. Toledo came within a point late, when Sina Uluave's kill made the score 23-22, but back-to-back WMU terminations ended the second set and put UT in a 2-0 hole.

3rd Set (25-16, Western Michigan)
The Broncos took a big early lead and never trailed at any point in the third set. They scored 12 of the first 16 points to take a 12-4 lead over UT, eventually growing their lead to double digits at 21-11. The final score in the third set settled at 25-16 as Western Michigan completed the three-set sweep.
