Pinyada Kuvanun (Khonkean, Thailand) was named Female Scholar Athlete of the Week by the Mid-American Conference for her performance at last week's Battle at Boulder Creek.
Kuvanun successfully defended her individual title in the event by shooting an even-par 216 (70-74-72) to finish two strokes in front of her nearest competitor.She finished with a tournament-high 11 birdies and led all golfers with a five-under total on par-five holes. Kuvanun's play helped Toledo win its second straight tournament and also was her third tournament victory as a collegian.
Kuvanun, who possesses a 3.614 grade-point average in international business, leads the Rockets with a 72.3 stroke average.Â
Kuvanun and the Rockets are in action this weekend at the Valspar Augusta Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
