TOLEDO, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference released the indoor track and field preseason poll today, and Toledo was picked to finish sixth in the league.
Akron was picked first with 7 first-place votes and 135 points. Eastern Michigan was picked second (three votes, 129) with Central Michigan (one vote, 107), Northern Illinois (one vote, 101), and Kent State (95) taking third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
Ball State was picked to take seventh (71) with Miami (70) and Bowling Green (51) taking eighth and ninth, respectively. Rounding out the poll were Western Michigan (48), Buffalo (35), and Ohio (18).
Last season, Toledo was picked fifth in the preseason poll and took fourth overall at the MAC Indoor Championships with 69 points.
Atalia Lima became the first Rocket to clinch the title in the pentathlon, scoring 3542 points.
Athena Welsh took first in the 5K with a time of 16:33.55 and
Shanice Williams defended her title in the 60m by clocking a time of 7.37. In total, the Rockets recorded 17 top-10 finishes.
The Rockets open the indoor season at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by Michigan on Jan. 11 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
