Toledo hosts a pair of MAC foes this weekend at Savage Arena. Friday night's contest against Western Michigan is Volley for the Cure Night, and Saturday's match against Northern Illinois is Alumni Night.

Rockets Host WMU, NIU this Weekend

TOLEDO, Ohio —The University of Toledo volleyball team is home this weekend, hosting MAC foes Western Michigan and Northern Illinois at Savage Arena.

Friday's match against the Broncos will begin at 7:00 p.m., while Saturday's contest against the Huskies will start at 8:00 p.m. and will be available locally on BCSN. Links for live stats and live streams are available below, and updates are also be available on Twitter at @Toledo_VB.

Friday is Toledo's Volley for the Cure Night for breast cancer awareness. Saturday is Alumni Night, and fans who attend the football game at 3:30 p.m. will get free admission to the volleyball match with their ticket stub.

Last Time Out
MAC play started last weekend, and Toledo dropped both of its conference matches. The Rockets lost to Ball State in three sets at home before falling at Buffalo in five.

Against the Cardinals, two Rockets reached double figures in kills. Chloee Kleespies tallied a match-high 11 terminations and Zoe Birnbrich added 10. Rhyen Neal led Toledo with 15 digs and Ryann Jaqua contributed 11 digs. In the match at Buffalo, Birnbrich tallied 13 kills and hit .393 for the Rockets and had a match-high nine blocks, tying a career high. Kleespies added 15 terminations and Emma Swope contributed 11 kills. Megan Beasley set a new career best with 44 assists and Neal led the team with 15 digs.

  • Zoe Birnbrich's career hitting percentage sits at .308 entering this weekend. That would put her second all-time in program history and make her the second player ever to finish her career with a hitting percentage over .300 (Dakota Harkins, .313, 2010-13).
  • Birnbrich is second in the MAC in hitting (.362) and teammate Megan Beasley is fourth in the conference in assists per set (9.35).
  • The Rockets tallied 14 total blocks against Buffalo last Saturday, tied for the most of any MAC team in a match this season.

Scouting the Opponents
Western Michigan: The Broncos are 10-4 entering Friday's match, the second-best record in the MAC. WMU feasted on non-conference competition, starting the season 9-1 before dropping three of its last four. However, those three losses have come to Auburn, Michigan State, and MAC-leader Central Michigan. Rachel Bontrager leads the MAC with 3.78 kills/set on 204 total attacks.

Northern Illinois: NIU is 4-12 coming into the weekend and will visit Ball State on Friday before coming to Toledo on Saturday. The Huskies snapped a five-match losing streak last Saturday with their win over Eastern Michigan. Kennedy Wallace (2.81) and Kaitlyn Bell (2.52) lead the team in kills/set, while setter Grace Balensiefer is among the MAC leaders in assists/set (9.54).
