Box Score TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo baseball team could not string together much offense, scoring just one run in a 4-1 loss to Dayton on Wednesday afternoon at Scott Park.
The Rockets (14-34) were led by sophomore
Riley Campbell who collected two of the team's six hits and scored the lone run for the home team. Freshman starter
Joey Prechtel tossed a career-high 5.2 innings, allowing two runs, one earned on six hits and three walks.
Dayton (17-31) put the first run on the board in the in the top of the second innings after Prechtel blanked the Flyers in the opening two frames. A pair of doubles for Dayton was enough to bring in the first run of the contest.
Toledo responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own. Campbell tripled down the right field line with two outs and scored on an RBI single by freshman
Michael Ryan. Ryan is now hitting .538 (7-for-13) in his last four games.
Flyers' starter Mason Kutruff stymied the Rockets throughout the game. The left-hander recorded 8.1 innings and allowed the one earned run on six hits and four walks. Kutruff threw 140 pitches in total.
Prechtel threw two more scoreless innings before allowing an unearned tally to Dayton in the top of the sixth. UD went on to plate single runs off of senior
Jordan Kesson in the seventh and fifth-year senior
Kyle Slack in the ninth to reach the final score of 4-1.
Prechtel (1-3) takes the tough luck loss, while Kutruff (3-5) pockets the win. Jordan Cox came on to lock down his third save in the ninth for the Flyers.
Toledo will be back in action at Scott Park on Friday as the Rockets begin an important three-game series with Mid-American Conference West Division leading Central Michigan.
