Box Score Houston, TX – Toledo might have fallen, 6-3, to No. 24 Texas on Sunday, but the Rockets definitely showed up to play. Toledo was the only team during this weekend's Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational to extend the Longhorns past five innings. Senior P
Marla Gooding (7.0 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 8 K) pitched an outstanding game. After Toledo's pitchers recorded nine strikeouts in its first four games this weekend, Gooding collected eight vs. Texas.

Celeste Fidge topped the Rockets with two hits (2-for-3).

Ashley Maynard (1-3) and
Chandler Rice (1-1) each recorded a hit as well. Rice and Fidge each notched an RBI.

Texas scored first thanks to a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning.

Rice was the Rockets' first baserunner with a walk in the top of the second and advanced to third when Fidge dropped a ball into right field. She was left stranded at third base.

The Horns increased their lead to 3-0 with an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the second.
Kylie Gross' diving catch on a foul ball to left field ended the inning with runners on second and third.

In the top of the third inning, Maynard reached third on a hit to center, advanced to third on a pair of sacrifice bunts but didn't score.

The Rockets broke through for their first run in the fourth on Rice's double to left. Following a walk to Choate, Fidge drove Rice home with a single through the right side.

The Longhorns' Celina Felix recorded her fourth-straight home run at the bottom of the fifth to put Texas up by a 5-1 margin.

In the top of the sixth, Rice brought home Lemieux with a sacrifice bunt and Fidge's single plated Showater to bring UT within 6-3.

UT left four runners on base and did not commit any errors.

The Rockets travel to Harrisburg, VA next weekend for the JMU Dukes invitational.
