BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo dropped a 5-1 decision against arch-rival Bowling Green (17-22) on Tuesday in non-conference action at Warren E. Steller Field. With the loss, the Rockets fall to 17-27 on the season.
UT senior RHP Alec Schmenk (1-2) was tagged with his second loss of the season, giving up four runs (three earned) on three hits. The Perrysburg, OH native allowed four walks and struckout one BGSU batter.
The Midnight Blue & Gold tallied nine hits in the contest, including a pair of hits from senior 3B Nate Langhals (2-for-3) and junior SS Deion Tansel's (1-for-4) sixth double of the season.
The Rockets tallied its lone run in the ninth inning as sophomore C Corey Tipton (2-for-4, RBI) singled up the middle to score classmate PH Jake Krupar (0-for-1, RS) for his second RBI of the year. However, the comeback bid would end just one batter later as freshman RF A.J. Montoya (1-for-5) popped out to the second baseman in foul territory.
The Falcons plated four runs in the second frame to pull ahead of the Rockets for good. Toledo comitted a pair of throwing errors on one play which scored three of the runs. BGSU then tacked on an insurance tally off of freshman RHP Kyle Rago in the fifth.
The Rockets will look for revenge on Wednesday when they host the Falcons at Scott Park at 3:05 p.m.
