Rockets Cruise to 3-0 Triumph over Zips

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo rolled to a 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-21) triumph over visiting on Saturday evening in Savage Arena. The Rockets' victory improved their record to 5-20 overall and 2-10 in MAC play.
 
UT's offense was led by sophomore OH Saige Thomas who posted a team-high 11 kills. Sophomore MB Rachel Vidourek contributed six kills in addition to a match-high .455 attack percentage. Sophomore MB Annie Beasley tallied nine kills and posted a .389 ATK%.
 
Freshman RSH/S Carly Townsend quarterbacked the Rockets to a .250 team hitting mark by collecting 29 assists. She also notched a match-high six blocks and four terminations.
 
Toledo utilized a balanced defense in the backcourt with freshman libero Maurissa Leonard posting 13 digs, senior DS Maddie Strall adding nine and junior DS Maggie Johnston notching eight.
 
The scores were close in set one but Toledo posted a .242 ATK% as a team while holding Akron to a .136 mark. UT won the first set 25-22 with the help of five team blocks and 10 attacking errors by the Zips.
 
UT led the entire second set and held the Zips to a .000 hitting mark en route to a 25-14 victory.

The third set was much closer than the second but UT was able to head off each Zip rally. Beasley was Toledo's performer in this set with four kills and a perfect 1.00 ATK%. The Rockets' intensity was consistent through the set, which helped them notch a 25-21 victory.
 
UT will play its final two road contests of the season when it visits Northern Illinois on Friday, Nov. 6 and Western Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Rockets then return home for their last two matches of the regular season. UT hosts Central Michigan on Friday, Nov. 13 before battling Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Nov. 14.
