TOLEDO, OH - The Rockets dropped a physical matchup with Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, 2-1, in double overtime at Scott Park. NIU forward Allie McBride fired in a penalty kick just 12 seconds into the second overtime to give the Huskies the victory.

Toledo (3-6-1, 0-2-0 MAC) held a 17-10 shot advantage, including a 12-4 edge in shots on goal. Toledo redshirt freshmen Hannah Scarfaria, freshman Sophie Pohl and newcomer Bethany Thomas paced the team with three shots apiece. UT managed a season-high 11 corner kicks, while Northern Illinois had just two.

The Rockets amped the offensive pressure in the second half after a scoreless first 45 minutes. After back-to-back corner kicks that were just off the mark, Toledo had yet another chance to connect on a play as senior Kirsten Catloth setup for another corner cross.

The ball sailed into a sea of players as senior Alexis Tice rose above the crowd and fired a header that blistered past the NIU keeper and rippled the back of the net to give Toledo the 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute.

Unfortunately for Toledo, the jubilation was short lived as the Huskies answered back with a header goal of their own in the 74th minute. Allie Ingham sent a cross from the right side and found an unmarked Haley Cummings in the box for the equalizer.

The Rockets made a flurry of runs and had quality chances to claim the victory as they totaled 13 shots in the second half but could not capitalize down the stretch.

Each team tallied a shot on goal in the first overtime period but it was McBride's golden goal penalty shot that was the difference in the contest.

The Rockets will hit the road next weekend with matches at Miami on Friday and Ball State on Sunday.
