Rockets Battle Ball State in Conference-Opening 3-1 Loss

MUNCIE, IN - Toledo battled hard on Thursday evening but came up on the short end of a 3-1 (25-16, 19-25, 26-24, 25-19) setback to defending Mid-American Conference regular-season champion Ball State (12-2, 1-0 MAC) in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals' victory extended their homecourt win streak to 18 matches which is the fifth longest in the nation.

Junior OH Sondra Parys led the Rockets offensively with 15 kills, while sophomore MB Dakota Harkins tallied 12 kills and an impressive .500 attack percentage.

Harkins also tied for the team lead with four blocks with sophomore RSH Becca Reidy also contributing four rejections. Sophomore OH Jordan Kielty paced the Rockets' defensive efforts in the back row with career-high tying 17 digs.

Junior OH Kara Bates topped Ball State with a match-best 18 kills, while senior MB Jennifer Boyd contributed 10 kills to go along with a .526 hitting mark. Sophomore libero Catie Fredrich tallied a match-high 23 digs.

Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when it visits Buffalo (8-6, 1-0 MAC). The Bulls posted a 3-2 road win over Akron this evening.
