HAUGHTON, LA - Toledo opened its 2009 spring season on Thursday with an eight-stroke victory over Centenary College at Old Oaks Golf Club in a rare head-to-head encounter. The matchup provided the Rockets with some extra preparation for this weekend's Koasati Pines Collegiate Classic in Kinder, LA.

The Rockets carded a team score of 316 with senior Boram Lee and sophomore Michelle Hui leading the way with six-over par rounds of 78. Sophomore Erica Rivard and freshman Angela Ibarra both shot 80s, while junior Marguerite Johnson tallied an 83.

I'm very pleased with the way we played for our first day of competition,” Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. “Our entire team performed well, and we're going to try to carry that over into our tournament this weekend.”

Centenary's Jessica Garza posted the best round of the day with a five-over par 77.

Toledo and Centenary will compete in this weekend's tournament with Central Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, McLennan CC, host McNeese State, Nicholls State, Redlands CC, Sam Houston State, South Alabama, Texas-San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas State.
