Rockets Cruise Past Kent State, 60-44

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Junior forward Florentino Valencia scored nine of his 11 points in the first half to help Toledo build a solid lead in a 60-44 win over Kent State on Tuesday.

Freshman guard Jonathan Amos tied his season high with 10 points off the bench for the Rockets (12-9, 5-8 Mid-American) as UT utilized a balanced attack with five players scoring eight or more points.

Junior forward Jerrah Young also added eight points in the first half to help UT come back from an early 14-8 deficit.

Toledo scored 23 points off turnovers and outscored the Golden Flashes (16-7, 10-2) in the paint, 32-14.

The Rockets led 32-23 at the break. UT shot 52 percent from the field and held the Flashes to 38 percent.

DeAndre Haynes led Kent State with nine points.

The Rockets led by at least eight throughout the second half and held a 21-point lead with 5:12 left.

Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 when it concludes a three-game homestand vs. Bowling Green (9-13, 5-7 MAC).
