MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -
Toledo rebounded from its 4-1 setback at Eastern Michigan on Friday by playing Central Michigan to a scoreless tie this afternoon. Each team earned one point in the Mid-American Conference standings, meaning CMU maintained its single point lead over the Rockets in the standings. The Chippewas' record now stands at 6-8-3 overall and 5-3-2 in the MAC. Toledo is now 10-6-1 and 5-4-1 in MAC play.
"Today was a very good match and well played by both teams," Toledo Head Coach Brad Evans said. "I thought our kids rebounded really well from Friday's match. This was a seesaw affair and both teams had some good offensive chances."
CMU outshot Toledo 17-15 in the match. Both teams generated most of their chances in the second half and the overtime periods. CMU goalkeeper Anne Decker made seven saves in the match, and reached a milestone with her final save of the contest. Decker now has 216 saves in her career, which ties her with Beth Quiney for the most saves by a goalkeeper at CMU. Toledo's Jen Whipple made eight saves for the Rockets.
"This was a match between two good playoff teams," Evans said. "The one point earned today keeps us involved in trying to find a good spot in the tournament."
Toledo will play its final regular-season match on Friday, Oct. 28 when it hosts arch-rival Bowling Green at 3:00 p.m. at Scott Park. UT has clinched a spot in the MAC Tournament, and will play a first-round match on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Currently, the Rockets are the No. 6 seed just ahead of Kent State and Eastern Michigan. The top four seeds will host the first-round matches.
