Toledo suffered its third-straight loss tonight with a 3-0 (30-20, 31-29, 30-26) setback at Kent State. The Rockets' record drops to 10-3 overall (0-3 MAC) with the defeat, while the Golden Flashes improve to 5-4 overall (2-0 MAC).
Junior middle blocker Kelsey Culver paced the Rockets' offense with 10 kills and a .529 attack percentage. She was the only UT player to reach double digits in kills.
The first game saw Toledo fall behind early by a 9-3 margin and the Rockets could not get closer than five points the rest of the way.
UT put up a strong fight in the second game in a bid to even up the match. The Rockets led 10-5 after a kill by sophomore outside hitter Kate Bean and extended it to 14-7. The Golden Flashes then crept to within 14-11 but UT appeared to gain control by jumping back ahead by a 20-14 margin. KSU clawed back into the game with a 5-1 run to tie the game at 27-27 but UT had a game point at 29-28 before giving up the last three points of the game.
The Golden Flashes controlled much of the the third game before a Rocket rally fell short after UT climbed to within 28-26 thanks to scoring five straight points.
Toledo returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1 when it host Central Michigan at Savage Hall at 7:00 p.m.
