TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Markus Austin scored 27 points and Eastern Michigan
withstood every Toledo rally while holding off the Rockets 84-79 Saturday
night.
Michael Ross added 15 points and John Bowler had 13 for the Eagles (10-11,
5-8 Mid-American Conference), who overcame Toledo's last charge when Danny
McElhinny hit two free throws for a five-point lead with 19 seconds left.
Keith Triplett led the Rockets (16-6, 10-4) with 24 points. Sammy Villegas
added 19 points and Justin Ingram had 15.
Toledo cut a 40-30 deficit to 40-35 at halftime, but fell behind 48-39 early
in the second half. After the Rockets got within 50-46, the Eagles went on a
17-8 surge to take a 67-54 lead with 7:41 remaining.
The Rockets pulled to 82-79 when Ingram hit a 3-pointer with 27 seconds
remaining, but the Eagles answered with McElhinny's free throws.
Eastern Michigan went 27-for-31 at the line, including 21-for-23 in the
second half. The Eagles made 9 of 12 attempts from 3-point range while Toledo
finished 9-for-29 beyond the arc.
