Last-Second Three-Pointer Thwarts Rockets

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Steve Pettyjohn scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds and Michael Ross scored 10 points and hit a 3-pointer with two seconds to play as Eastern Michigan beat Toledo 76-73 Saturday.

With the score tied at 65 with 3:59, John Bowler scored eight straight points for the Eagles (12-11, 6-8 Mid-American Conference). A layup gave Eastern Michigan a 73-68 lead with 56 seconds to play.

After Keith Triplett made a 3-pointer to pull the Rockets (10-14, 4-10 MAC) to 73-71, Anton Currie made a layup with eight seconds left to tie it. Ross made a 3-pointer with two seconds left and Toledo couldn't get a shot off.

The two teams played a sloppy first half, which ended with Eastern holding a 29-26 lead. Toledo took a 65-60 lead with 5:05 to play, but Bowler scored and Ross made a 3-pointer to tie it.

Bowler had 14 points for Eastern, Ryan Prillman had 13 and JaQuan Hart scored 12. Triplett led Toledo with 24 points and Nick Moore had 10.
