Final Stats
Toledo, OH -
Toledo (10-30-1, 1-15 MAC) dropped a pair of two-run decisions this afternoon in its doubleheader against arch-rival Bowling Green (16-21-1, 7-9 MAC) at Scott Park. The Falcons posted a 3-1 victory in the opener before rallying for a 10-8 (9 inn.) triumph in the nightcap.
The first game appeared to be headed for extra innings as both teams each plated a single run in the second inning. Falcon 3B Jody Johnson's RBI single accounted for BG's run, while junior C Tiffany Edgar's sacrifice fly tied the contest at 1-1.
The Falcons plated their go-ahead runs in the seventh inning. Bowling Green 2B Sam Moore reached on an error to lead off the frame but was gunned down by Edgar attempting to steal second base. The next two Falcons reached on a hit and a walk and advanced to second and third base on a groundout. However, RF Renee Rosemeier delivered a two-out single to score CF Kandice Machain with 1B Natalie Phillips scoring on the play due to a Rocket throwing error.
Senior Colette McMasters (4-12) took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) and nine hits in seven innings. Jesse Milosek (8-4) was credited with the victory as she limited UT to one run and five hits.
The Rockets took control of the second game early by scoring four runs in the first and two in the second. Senior RF Kalika Stavroulakis' two-run single highlighted the opening frame.
Bowling Green rallied with three runs in the third, but the Rockets added what appeared to be a pair of insurance runs in the third and fifth innings to take an 8-3 advantage.
However, the Falcons tallied three runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to send the game into extra innings. The big blow for Bowling Green was delivered with Rosemeier's two-out three-run double in the sixth inning. The Falcons' two runs in the seventh came as a result of three hits and a pair of Rocket fielding miscues.
BG then plated two runs in the ninth to register the win.
McMasters (4-13) suffered the loss for the Rockets in relief, while the Falcons' Jody Johnson earned the win with seven innings of two-run relief.
Toledo returns to action on Tuesday, April 23 when it hosts IUPU-Fort Wayne in a non-conference doubleheader at Scott Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
