TOLEDO, OH - Junior guard Nick Moore and sophomore guard Terry Reynolds were the only Rockets in double figures tonight as Toledo (8-11, 5-5 MAC) held Central Michigan (7-12, 4-7 MAC) to 32 percent shooting en route to a 58-42 victory over the Chippewas tonight. Moore led the way with 15 points, while Reynolds added 13 for the Rockets who moved back into second place in the MAC's West Division ahead of Northern Illinois (9-11, 5-6 MAC).
The win avenged a 75-61 Rocket defeat in Mt. Pleasant, MI on Jan. 22 and snapped a three-game Chippewa win streak in the series.
The Rockets opened the second half with an 11-3 run to take a 33-24 lead with 14:45 to play. Reynolds started the surge with a three-pointer, and Moore capped it with a trey and a three-point play.
The Chippewas quickly pulled within five, but then scored just two points over the next five minutes to fall behind 40-30 with 8:57 left.
Senior guard David Webber scored 15 points and was the only Central Michigan player in double
figures. The Chippewas hit just 15-of-47) of their shots from the field, including 1-of-8 from three-point range.
CMU's 42 points were the fewest allowed by the Rockets in a MAC game since a 56-41 win over Bowling Green on Jan. 31, 1998, and the Chippewas' 32 percent shooting was the lowest by a UT opponent this year.
The Rockets will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Miami (9-12, 6-4 MAC). Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
