BOWLING GREEN, OH - Toledo (6-8, 3-2 MAC) suffered a 76-57 setback to arch-rival Bowling Green (14-2, 4-1) today as Falcon senior Len Matela equalled his career-high with 28 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Sophomore guard Terry Reynolds netted a team-high 20 points for the Rockets with freshman guard Jim Clement adding 10 points.
Toledo's second-leading scorer, junior guard Nick Moore, sat out the contest due to a back injury suffered near the end of the Rockets' 89-80 win over Northern Illinois. It was the first time in 77 games he has missed a contest in his collegiate career.
After Bowling Green took a 33-25 halftime advantage, Toledo reduced the Falcons' lead to 41-38 five minutes into the second stanza as Reynolds started strong with eight of UT's 13 points. Helping the Rockets' cause was BG's leading scorer Keith McLeod picking up his fourth foul just over a minute into the half.
But the turning point in the contest came when Reynolds picked up his fourth foul on a charge with 14:32 to play. The Falcons then went on a 13-2 run to take control, and when Reynolds returned five minutes later the Rockets were trailing by a 54-40 margin.
The closest UT came the remainder of the contest was 12 points, 69-57, with 2:09 remaining.
Toledo returns to action on Tuesday, Jan. 22 when it travels to Mt. Pleasant, MI to take on Central Michigan. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
