Rochester, MI -
Toledo (9-9) posted its sixth victory in its last seven games today with a 13-12 triumph at Oakland (0-13). The game originally was scheduled to be played at Scott Park but was moved due to wet field conditions.
The Rockets appeared to take control of the contest with a nine-run fifth inning. In that scoring barrage, UT scored three runs on bases-loaded walks. The Rockets plated their remaining runs on freshman SS Chris Arvay's two-run single, sophomore J.D. Foust's two-run single, sophomore 2B Taylor Eckel's sacrifice fly and a passed ball.
Oakland chipped away at the Rocket lead and its five-run seventh inning brought the Golden Grizzlies within 10-9.
Toledo received an insurance run in the eighth on Foust's RBI single and two in the ninth on singles from junior CF Tony Miller and junior 3B Mike Meinhart.
Oakland plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth and loaded the bases when freshman Rob Shackleton fanned pinch-hitter Spencer Hynes to end the game.
Freshman E.T. Ducey (1-1) earned his first victory as a Rocket with three innings of solid relief, while Shackleton recorded his first save.
Toledo opens its home season this weekend vs. Akron on Saturday and Sunday, March 24-25. Each game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. and will serve as the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams.
