TOLEDO, OH -
Junior Heidi Neumeister (24 kills) and senior Lindsey Kretzmann (23 kills) led Toledo (10-5, 6-3 MAC) to a 3-2 (35-33, 30-27, 29-31, 22-30, 15-6) victory over arch-rival Bowling Green (9-4, 3-3 MAC) tonight at Savage Hall. The victory put the Rockets into third place in the MAC's West Division behind Ball State (11-5, 7-1 MAC) and Northern Illinois (9-4, 6-2 MAC).
"Whenever you beat Bowling Green, it's always a good win," Toledo Head Coach Kent Miller said. "I was happy with how we fought back after losing the third and fourth games with a dominant performance in Game 5. This was a critical win for us because it keeps us in a good position in the MAC standings."
The Rockets opened the match by winning the first two games. In Game One, Neumeister (9 kills) and Kretzmann (7 kills) led the way as each posted a .600 attack percentage. UT's momentum continued in Game Two with Kretzmann (6 kills, .556 ATK%) and junior Jessica Buck (6 kills, 1.000 ATK%) pacing the Rocket attack.
In Game 3, Toledo appeared to be on its way to a three-game sweep, but the Falcons rallied from a 20-17 deficit. BG scored four straight points for a 21-20 lead and never trailed again. The Falcons surged to a 19-13 advantage in the fourth game before the Rockets clawed back to within 21-20. BG then scored nine of the game's final 11 points for the win.
Toledo took over in Game Five by jumping out to a 5-2 advantage and never looked back. The Rockets registered a .636 attack percentage with seven kills in 11 attempts to close out the match.
Sophomore setter Carrie McCaw collected a career-high 68 assists in the victory along with eight digs, three blocks and three kills. Junior Becky Radomski led the team in digs with 11 as six Rockets collected eight or more digs.
"We really received a lot of contributions from all the players tonight," Miller said. "It seemed liked whenever we needed somebody to come with a big play, we were able to get it."
The Rockets will take a break from MAC play in their next action tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts IUPU-Fort Wayne at Savage Hall.
