Cristobal Toral enters his second year as graduate assistant tennis coach for the Rockets. Toral played for the Rockets men’s tennis team from 2002-06.
"We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Toro’s knowledge and energy join our program," Head Coach Tracy Mauntler said. "He relates well to the players and does a great job motivating them to get better every day at practice."
As a Rocket, Toral had a career record of 57-57 and won several honors. In 2002, he was named "Newcomer of the Year" by coach Al Wermer. In 2004, he was selected to the MAC All-Academic Team. As a senior, Toral received the team’s "Leadership Award."
Toral also works as a tennis pro at Laurel Hill Tennis Club and the Toledo Country Club. Last summer he worked at the Toledo Country Club as a tennis coach. In 2006, he worked at the Cortina Inn Resort in Killington, VT as a tennis coach. In 2004 and 2005 he coached at the Caramel High School summer camps in Chicago, IL.
In prep school, Toral placed fifth at the South American Championships in 2000 and was ranked No. 2 nationally in juniors. He finished No. 6 in the junior rankings in 1999, and No. 4 nationally for Under-16 in 1998. Toral was also ranked No. 4 nationally in 1997 juniors and advanced to the main draw in satellite Chile competition.
Toral was raised in Curico, Chile before coming to UT. He recently completed his bachelor’s degree in marketing and international business from Toledo, and is currently working on his MBA.
