5/9/2026 5:09:00 PM | Baseball
Liam Arsich, Troy Sudbrook, Ty O'Brien each record three-hit games
Â
The Rockets (26-25, 19-10 MAC) opened the scoring in the second before putting up three runs in the third and another run in the fourth. The Bobcats scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Rockets maintained that advantage until the eighth, before adding the two deciding runs in the eighth and stopping Ohio's rallies with the tying run at the plate in the eighth and ninth innings. Toledo has now won eight of its last nine games.
Â
Offensively, redshirt junior Troy Sudbrook, redshirt freshman Ty O'Brien and freshman Liam Arsich each logged three-hit games, with O'Brien marking the first three-hit effort of his career. Sudbrook reached base in all five plate appearances, with two hit-by-pitches. Junior Cade Baker produced two RBIs.
Â
Freshman Hayden Frey (6-2) won his third-straight start, pitching 7.0 innings with three runs allowed on four hits, with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Toledo starting pitching has contributed 14.0 innings through the first two games of the weekend series. Graduate student Deron Swanson worked the final two innings, allowing two runs.
Â
The rubber match will be held on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Happy for the win. It was ugly but always love a win. Hayden Frey pitched a good game, and Deron Swanson closed it out. The offense responded today and hit the ball much better. Tomorrow is a big game. We need to win to at least keep pace towards the top and set up a big weekend with Kent State."
