Rockets Respond with 7-5 Victory Against Ohio to Even Series

Liam Arsich, Troy Sudbrook, Ty O'Brien each record three-hit games
ATHENS, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team scored the first five runs of the game and held on to its advantage the rest of the way, responding with a 7-5 victory over Ohio to even the weekend series at Bob Wren Stadium on Saturday.

The Rockets (26-25, 19-10 MAC) opened the scoring in the second before putting up three runs in the third and another run in the fourth. The Bobcats scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-3. The Rockets maintained that advantage until the eighth, before adding the two deciding runs in the eighth and stopping Ohio's rallies with the tying run at the plate in the eighth and ninth innings. Toledo has now won eight of its last nine games.

Offensively, redshirt junior Troy Sudbrook, redshirt freshman Ty O'Brien and freshman Liam Arsich each logged three-hit games, with O'Brien marking the first three-hit effort of his career. Sudbrook reached base in all five plate appearances, with two hit-by-pitches. Junior Cade Baker produced two RBIs.

Freshman Hayden Frey (6-2) won his third-straight start, pitching 7.0 innings with three runs allowed on four hits, with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Toledo starting pitching has contributed 14.0 innings through the first two games of the weekend series. Graduate student Deron Swanson worked the final two innings, allowing two runs.

The rubber match will be held on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN+.

- The Rockets put runners on the corners in the second and scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the game.
- Toledo put up a three-spot in the third to sprint ahead, 4-0, on a Charlie Scholvin RBI single, a Cade Baker sac fly and an RBI base knock by Wagner. Liam Arsich drilled a solo home run with one out in the fifth for a 5-0 lead.
- The Bobcats scored three two-out runs in the fourth on a two-run double and a wild pitch to cut Toledo's lead to 5-3.
- Ryan Sudbrook singled to lead off the eighth with an error and a wild pitch resulting in a run. Toledo then loaded up the bases on a single, hit-by-pitch and a walk, leading to another run on Baker's squeeze bunt to double the lead to 7-3.
- A hit-by-pitch, a walk and an error led to a run for Ohio, before another crossed on a double steal to put the Bobcats within 7-5. Deron Swanson got a strikeout to end the inning with the tying run at the plate.
