2024 Toledo alum had 0.64 ERA across two series-clinching games in postseason
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo baseball alumnus Grant Umberger has won a Minor League Baseball championship after the Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the South Atlantic League championship series on Tuesday.

Umberger just completed his second pro season with the title. He signed a pro contract with the Chicago White Sox in 2025 and advanced to high-A Winston-Salem late in the 2025 season.

A Chester Springs, Pennsylvania native, Umberger pitched the clinching games in both the Division Series against Bowling Green and the championship series against Greensboro. Umberger tallied 14.0 innings across the two starts with a 0.64 ERA and 22 total strikeouts. This included fanning 11 batters in 7.2 shutout innings in Winston-Salem's 2-0 championship-clinching victory last night.

Umberger finished with an 11-7 record, a 4.70 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 120.2 innings pitched in the regular season. He finished the season strong, with a 2.81 ERA, a .226 opponent average and a 2-0 record in five starts in August.

For his pro career, Umberger carries a 20-9 record with a 3.70 ERA, and 224 strikeouts in 226.1 innings. He set the low-A Kannapolis Cannon Ballers' single-season record with 116 strikeouts in 2025.

At Toledo, Umberger joined the program and became the weekend opener in the rotation in the 2024 season. He had a 3.81 ERA and 80 strikeouts in 75.2 innings in a Rocket uniform, and was a First Team All-MAC selection. He led a Rockets' pitching staff which set a program record at the time with 514 strikeouts.

Umberger is one of eight Rockets to be drafted or signed to an MLB organization out of Toledo under Rob Reinstetle.

Before turning pro, Umberger played for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the MLB Draft League in 2024.
