Preston Zumwalt produces five RBIs as Toledo extends streak to seven
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team continued its season-best seven-game winning streak, putting up several crooked numbers in a 12-1 midweek victory in seven innings over Butler at Scott Park on Wednesday.
Â
The Rockets (25-24) scored three times in the second inning to take the lead, and the offense never took its foot off the gas all game, with two runs in the third inning, four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Â
Freshman Preston Zumwalt turned in a big game for the Rockets, with two key hits which totaled a season-high five RBIs. Junior Cade Baker hit 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored. Redshirt freshman Ty O'Brien turned in a multi-hit bid with two RBIs, and crossed the plate three times. Toledo's offense scored in double figures for the sixth time in its last 11 games.
Â
Six different Rocket pitchers combined for a three-hitter. Ryan Hughes (2-3) started and worked the first two innings, before Matthew Hubbard, Cole Giesige, Braden Curry, Sam Rufenacht and John Hojnowski each worked an inning. Hubbard struck out the side in his frame.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Today was another all-around solid game. We continue to swing the bats well with many guys contributing to the run production. We threw six different guys in the game today, and they all threw well and combined for a three-hit performance. We are playing good baseball right now and need to continue to carry this momentum into the weekend."
