Eleven-Run Fourth Inning Vaults Rockets over Golden Grizzlies, 18-8
4/28/2026 6:47:00 PM | Baseball
All nine starters score in seven-inning victory over Oakland
The Rockets (21-24) sent 15 batters to the plate in the fourth, scoring 11 runs on six hits, including 10 runs before an out was recorded. It was the second time this season that Toledo scored double-digit runs in an inning (14, fifth inning vs. Eastern Michigan, April 3). Toledo then scored three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to force the run-rule victory. Toledo extended its winning streak to three with the victory.
Toledo received multi-hit games from juniors Carson McCaleb and JP Wagner, sophomore Ty O'Brien and freshman Ryan Sudbrook. O'Brien blasted a three-run home run in the sixth and totaled four RBIs. Juniors Charlie Scholvin and Cade Baker, and redshirt junior Jackson Hiatt each supplied two RBIs. All nine starters in the lineup scored at least one run and six players scored multiple times on the day.
Starter John Hojnowski (2-2) got the win. He pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Graduate student Cole Giesige and freshman Sam Rufenacht each pitched a scoreless inning.
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"Happy for the win today. We did a lot of things well with the bats, played good defense, and pitched it well outside of one inning. Now we can turn our focus to a big series with Ball State this weekend."
