TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team started the final month of the regular season with an important Mid-American Conference victory against Ball State, 8-3, at Scott Park on Friday.
Â
The Rockets (22-24, 16-9 MAC) scored four runs in the second inning to take the lead before tacking on insurance runs in the fifth and sixth, with two more crossing the plate in the seventh. Toledo won its fourth-straight game overall and third-straight in the MAC. The Rockets will remain in a top-five position in the MAC standings and within 2.0 games of first place at the end of play today.
Â
Juniors Charlie Scholvin, Carson McCaleb and JP Wagner each supplied multi-hit games for the Rockets. Scholvin had his 22nd multi-hit game of the season while Wagner earned his fifth-straight two-hit bid. Scholvin also launched his third home run of the season and had two RBIs, along with Wagner and freshman Liam Arsich. Seven different Rockets scored runs on the day.

Senior Nathan Leininger (8-1) pitched seven solid innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five batters. Leininger allowed just one hit through his first five innings and set down 10 batters in a row from the second through fifth innings. Redshirt freshman Nate Langbehn closed out the game with a scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
Â
The Rockets will look to claim the series on Saturday, with first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"That's a huge win for us. Always good to get the weekend series off to a good start. Nate Leininger gave us another solid start, keeping their bats at bay and allowing our offense to find ways to score. Nate Langbehn was lights out in his two innings to shut the door on the win. We are in a good spot, but can't be satisfied with this win. Ball State is a good team and throwing their best guy tomorrow. We'll need to be locked in and ready to go."
