Rockets Rally to Win Battle of I-75, 6-4

Deron Swanson's five shutout innings set up Liam Arsich's game-winning single in ninth
After giving up four runs in the first inning, the Rockets (20-24, 15-9 MAC) got within one on a three-run home run in the third inning. The game became a battle of the bullpens from there, with both teams getting out of jams to keep the game at 4-3 heading into the eighth. Toledo tied the game in the eighth before a clutch, two-run single with two outs in the ninth by freshman Liam Arsich stood as the winning run. With the win and Kent State's loss to Western Michigan, Toledo finishes the weekend two games out of first in the league standings.
Arsich tallied a season-high four hits, with two RBIs on the game-winning single and a run scored. Junior Charlie Scholvin also registered a season-high four-hit game with an RBI and run scored. Juniors Troy Sudbrook (2-for-6) and JP Wagner (2-for-3) each had multi-hit games in all three games of the series.
Graduate student Deron Swanson (W, 3-4) pitched five shutout innings in relief, allowing five hits and striking out five with two walks. He stranded seven Falcon baserunners to keep the Rockets in the game. Redshirt freshman Michael Fliss started and went three innings, allowing four runs (two earned). Redshirt freshman Nate Langbehn worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to notch his fourth save.
Toledo has won the Battle of I-75 weekend series against Bowling Green for the second-straight season by winning the final two games after dropping the first in both instances.
Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"I can't express how happy I am for our guys. So proud of the way they battled all day and took that win. After a rough first inning and spotting them four runs, we settled in and fought back. Baker's three-run homer turned the momentum in our favor. Deron Swanson was just sensational in relief. He put us in a position for Liam Arsich to come through with a massive two-out hit to put us ahead."
