Rockets Drop Series Finale at Akron, 7-4
3/29/2026 4:37:00 PM | Baseball
Toledo takes 2-of-3 from the weekend series
Â
The Rockets (12-14, 8-4 MAC) got on the board first and came back to tie in the third with three runs, but the Zips (12-14, 5-7 MAC) scored the final three runs in the fifth and eighth innings, while holding Toledo off the scoreboard in the final six frames. Toledo had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh and the tying run in the eighth, but could not score. Despite the defeat, the Rockets took 2-of-3 from the weekend set and will be outright or tied for fourth place in the Mid-American Conference at day's end.
Â
At the plate, Troy Sudbrook (12), Jacob Payne (4) and Charlie Scholvin (4) each extended their hitting streaks. Scholvin scored a run in the first, the 100th of his career. Toledo stole five bases as a team, two of which came from Scholvin, the fifth time this season the Rockets totaled five or more thefts.
Â
Graduate student Deron Swanson (2-4) took the defeat. Redshirt freshman Nate Langbehn pitched the final 3.2 innings, allowing just one run with seven strikeouts, notching career highs in both innings and strikeouts.

Quoting Head Coach Rob Reinstetle
"We won the weekend series, which is always the goal, but I feel like we let a golden opportunity slip through our fingers. For as good as we hit all weekend, we just couldn't get anything going after the third inning. It was a 4-4 game and anyone's for the taking, but we just had too many quiet innings at the plate. I tip my cap to their reliever. He came in and just shut us down. We're 8-4 and right in the hunt, but we have a really big home weekend vs. a hot Eastern Michigan team. We need to come ready to play."
