Men’s Tennis and Baseball return home as spring sports are in full swing

Men's Golf is wrapping up March in Wilmington, N.C. at the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday. Toledo will be competing in a 15-team field that includes No. 26 Duke at the par-72, 7,030-yard Country Club of Landfill course. Senior Bence Kotel is leading the Rockets with a 71.87 stroke average with sophomore Bence Bertenyi (72.89) just over a stroke behind. Bertenyi and Kotel have each been named Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week after each of the Rockets' last two tournaments.

Baseball starts the week at Ohio State on Tuesday before returning to Scott Park for a home series against Eastern Michigan on Thursday-Saturday. Tuesday's first pitch from Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus will be at 6:00 p.m. on B1G+. Toledo won 2-of-3 in its weekend series against Akron with a 13-1, seven-inning victory on Friday and a 7-3 win on Saturday. Troy Sudbrook led offensively last week, hitting .467 (7-for-15) for the week and extending his hitting streak to 12. Starters Nathan Leininger and Hayden Frey each picked up wins on the mound, allowing just one run in 5.0 innings in their respective starts. The Rockets (12-14, 8-4 MAC) are tied for fourth in the MAC standings.

Men's Tennis returns home for a pair of conference matchups. The Rockets will host UIC on Thursday, April 2 and Northern Illinois on Saturday, April 4 and locations will be weather dependent. UT dropped a pair of close matches last week to Ball State and Western Michigan. Matias Olivero and Charlie Snow posted straight-set wins over Ball State, while Poonthong Komolpisut and Luccas Britez notched wins against Western Michigan.

Women's Tennis continues league play with a trip to Buffalo, N.Y. to face the Bulls. The Rockets battled back from a 3-1 deficit against Western Michigan this past weekend as Jone Ibanez fought off six match points to earn match point and the 4-3 victory. Six Rockets have tallied six or more wins in singles play throughout the dual season as UT sits at 3-1 in MAC play.

Softball returns to the field for a three-game league series against Akron in Akron, Ohio. The Rockets picked up their third-consecutive series win this past weekend, earning two wins over Ball State after beginning the week with a 5-3 decision against Michigan State. Samantha Bolding led the offense, tallying a .571 batting average at the plate and blasting four home runs and adding 10 RBIs. Mady Yackee appeared in all three weekend games, winning two and allowing just four runs in 10.2 innings pitched. Toledo is 6-3 in league play and currently sits in third in the conference standings.

Track & Field continues its outdoor portion of the season at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday. At the Raleigh Relays this past weekend, four Rockets broke into the all-time top-10 times. Dorcas Kiptanui tallied the second-best time in the 5000m (15:54.39), while Laura Acuña tied for the ninth-best time in the 800m (2:10.85). Meldoy Jebiwot and Hannah Ielfield broke into the top-10 times in the 10,000m as Jebiwot recorded the fourth-best time (33:36.81) and Ielfield followed up with the sixth-best time in her debut 10k event (34:02.72).

Saturday, April 4 / at Lubbers Cup / Grand Rapids, Mich. / 9:00 a.m.
Rowing opens up the spring portion of its inaugural season at the Lubbers Cup in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Saturday morning. The Rockets' last team action came at the Bald Eagle Collegiate Invitational on Nov. 1 where the first novice 8+ boat won their event, the first win in program history. The squad earned top-three finishes in half of the races competed at the event.
