Toledo wins four singles matches, takes doubles point in MAC opener
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team defeated defending conference champion Miami, 5-2, in its Mid-American Conference season opener on Friday.
The Rockets (6-6, 1-0 MAC) tallied four wins in singles competition and won the doubles point. JJ Scholten picked up a straight set win on the No. 1 court while Anastasia Akuginova tallied a 6-2, 6-4 decision on the No. 5 court.
Junior Jone Ibanez clinched match point with a three-set 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 victory on the No. 3 court. Sophomore Neha Guru earned a three-set win on the No. 4 court after dropping the first set.
In doubles play, UT fired off a 6-2 decision on the No. 2 court and held off the RedHawks with a 7-5 win on the No. 3 court to pick up the doubles point. Miami's lone points of the match came off of wins on the No. 2 and No. 6 singles courts.

"The energy was electric today! I am so proud of the way the team competed! We actually lost four first sets in singles but I feel like our experience and tough schedule so far this year showed. Our team stayed poised and confident. Very proud of the effort today."
